TradeJustice Activists Take the Stage to Mock Korean President Lee,
Denounce Korea-US FTA at Live Performance of Korea's Most Popular Podcast

On Tuesday, December 6, 2011 Adam Weissman of Global Justice for Animals and the Environment and Sukjong Hong of Nodutol for Korean Community Development poked fun at Korean President Lee and denounced the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement before an audience of 450 Korean Americans and Korean international students at a live performance by the hosts of “Naneun Ggomsuda,” (translation:“I’m a Petty-Minded Creep" or "I'm a petty trickster" -- a slur used by protesters to describe South Korean President Lee Myung Bak), South Korea's most popular podcast. Recently profiled in the New York Times, Naneun Ggomsuda, affectionately referred to by fans as "Naggomsu" uses humor to inspire young people to resist the policies of South Korean President Lee and have organized massive rallies against the Korea-US FTA in Seoul, South Korea.

The TradeJustice activists were invited by the producers of the event to speak briefly on the destructive impacts of the FTA and rally attendees to support our anti-FTA efforts. Given Naggomsu's penchant for ridiculing President Lee, the TradeJustice activists began their presentation by having Adam enter the stage and proceed to give a victory speech on passing the FTA, lauding its bogus economic benefits for Korean workers. Moments later, Sukjong ran on stage to shout down the President's lies and expose the truth about the Korea-US FTA. Breaking character, Adam dropped the mask and implored attendees to join TradeJustice New York Metro in working in solidarity with the Korean Alliance Against the Korea-US FTA to work to nullify the free trade agreement.

At the end of the performance TradeJustice and Naggomsu volunteers passed out informational flyers and signed up enthusiastic event attendees to learn more and join in our campaign to nullify the Korea-US FTA. Afterwards, we joined the hosts and volunteers of Naggomsu at an afterparty and used the opportunity to talk to talk to Naggomsu volunteers about the fight against the FTA.
